The Sale was a Bust

Art for Sale Holiday Pop Up Art Market

Last week, I was part of a festive, pop-up holiday art market downtown.

Denver was dressed to the nines in her holiday finery, ready to serve up eggnog and candy canes. The carolers were singing. The holiday lights were glittering in the night air.

The sale was a bust.

We had great traffic before the performances got under way (the gallery/coffee shop is located within the Denver Performing Arts Complex).

And then...nothing.

I met some lovely people--very talented artists doing a range of different things (a metal sculptor, a glass artisan, a woman who makes full sized, knitted dragons and travels around the country doing shows with Vogue (!), among other things). I had a glass of wine, and watched the people rushing to and fro.

And I sold two prints...to a fellow artist.

Downtown was packed. Parking was a bear. And I think that was part of the problem. There was too much going on downtown.

The Parade of Lights was happening, and it was also First Friday. A couple of friends made it out to support us (my talented mom and I), and they spent over an hour trying to get to the gallery. They live 10-15 minutes away.

I have done two sales this holiday season, the first was far more successful than last weekend--and I've learned a lot. I enjoyed getting ready, packaging up my prints and figuring out how to display everything. I enjoyed the pre-sale jitters--that excitement that bubbles up from a place deep down when you see your work, your heart, all on display...and you wonder if anyone will want what you make.

And now I have an inventory surplus of unframed/framed art prints. So get in touch if you're in the market for some whimsical wall art (Kelly@KellyAngelovic.com)!

Onward.

Your Vote Matters

Your Vote Matters to Me If you have already cast your vote, thank you. Thank you! You are awesome!!!

If you haven't quite gotten around to it, the gallery is still up. And I need your support!!

As you know, I am a semi-finalist in a Global Talent Search for Lilla Rogers Studio. In this next round, the 50 semi-finalists will be narrowed down to 6, one of whom will be chosen by a public choice vote.

This is where I need you.

It would mean the world to me if you would take the time (I know you're busy--it won't take long) to visit the public gallery and vote for my submission.

Pretty please. And thank you. I cannot tell you how much your support means to me. For those who missed it, here is my farmer's market tote bag submission:

Sweet Harvest

And don't forget, the opening reception for my art show, Re-Imagine Nation, is tonight!

Opening Reception: Backstage Coffee Art Gallery at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Friday, September 6, 2013 (First Friday) | 7:30-11:00 pm

Hors d'oeuvres will be available and the bar will be open. I hope to see you there!

The gallery is located at Backstage Coffee in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, across from the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and within walking distance from the Convention Center light rail station.

I'm having an Art Show!

Canning Pattern Lately I find myself longing for cooler nights, boots and sweaters, and the deligthful colors of Fall. This pattern collection was inspired by the elements and icons from my GTS tote bag submission.

I am having a gallery show!

Entitled Re-Imagine Nation, and featuring (from the press release) "... delightfully rendered illustrative artworks by Benjamin Wright Coleman, Kelly Angelovic, Mike Geiger and John D. Schultz, poetry recited by Hannah Haddadi and Haven Grey, and live music performed by Josh Meyers, Re-Imagine Nation melds the kindred spirits of visual art, music and the written word.

What would you choose to accomplish if you could re-create your world, a vision of your own making? Re-Imagine Nation will inspire this journey of exploration."

On display September 3 through October 26, there will be two artists' receptions:

Opening Reception: Backstage Coffee Art Gallery at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Friday, September 6, 2013 (First Friday) | 7:30-11:00 pm

Artists' Reception: Backstage Coffee Art Gallery at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Saturday, October 12, 2013 | 7:30-11:00 pm. This reception will also benefit the Ponzio Creative Arts Therapy Program at Children's Hospital.

Mark your calendars! I would love to see you at either event!

The gallery is located at Backstage Coffee in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, across from the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and within walking distance from the Convention Center light rail station.
