The Results are In!

I didn't make it through to the next round of Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search. KELLY_ANGELOVIC_BEAUJARDIN

The assignment was to design a pattern for a pair of sneakers for Antoinette, a fictional woman living in New York City. It was such a great assignment and there were some amazing interpretations.

The level of talent in the winner's pool is definitely worth a peek--though there were a lot of unbelievable entries that didn't make the cut as well.

When I decided to enter this contest, my goal was to end up with a piece that I was proud of. One that was 100% me.

I had so much fun making this, and I can't wait to create a coordinating collection. Can you envision this design on tote bags, or funky purses? On note cards? Or maybe a pencil pouch or a throw pillow?

As an artist, everything I take in with my eyes influences my art.

Just as I am inspired by what I see though, the way I interpret that information is all me. Each and every one of us is blessed with our own unique creative voice.

Congratulations to the lucky 50 who made it to the semi-finals. Enjoy the ride...its a fun one! For the rest of us, keep at it--keep showing up. The world needs you.

I will leave you with the words of Howard Thurman, which have never been more true.

“Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

What About Your Socks?

gts-banner-011 It's that time of year again. Lilla Rogers Studio's Global Talent Search 2015 is about to begin! The prize is representation for two years with Lilla Rogers Studio, plus a slew of dream licensing deals right out of the gate.

Truth be told I wasn't even going to enter this year, but I won a free spot with my Follow Your Joy alumni manifesto back in February, so....here we go!

This year, leading up to the contest, Lilla is offering 5 (free) mini assignments--one per day, all this week. The official contest kicks off Friday, August 14. So if you're interested in joining in the on the fun, check it out!

The first mini was all about socks, and what they reveal about current trends, fashion, colors and patterns. This is right up my alley--I have a drawer full of whimsical socks (my favorites are knee high rainbow striped toe socks)...and it's rare that I wear the same sock on both feet.

Global Talent Search Winners Announced

Mudita The Dalai Lama explains Mudita (Sanskrit) like this,

"If I am happy for myself, many fewer chances for happiness. If I'm happy when good things happen to other people, billions more chances to be happy."

Yesterday, Lilla Rogers announced the winners of her Global Talent Search. I am so excited for Tara Lilly (Grand Prize winner), and Rebecca Jones and Flora Waycott (both special Studio Award winners).

The final assignment was to create a line of home decor products. Here is Tara's final submission:

I am so happy for the winners and can't wait to see what they do in the coming year. Many congratulations to all three of you!
