Your Vote Matters

Your Vote Matters to Me If you have already cast your vote, thank you. Thank you! You are awesome!!!

If you haven't quite gotten around to it, the gallery is still up. And I need your support!!

As you know, I am a semi-finalist in a Global Talent Search for Lilla Rogers Studio. In this next round, the 50 semi-finalists will be narrowed down to 6, one of whom will be chosen by a public choice vote.

This is where I need you.

It would mean the world to me if you would take the time (I know you're busy--it won't take long) to visit the public gallery and vote for my submission.

Pretty please. And thank you. I cannot tell you how much your support means to me. For those who missed it, here is my farmer's market tote bag submission:

Sweet Harvest

And don't forget, the opening reception for my art show, Re-Imagine Nation, is tonight!

Hors d'oeuvres will be available and the bar will be open. I hope to see you there!

The gallery is located at Backstage Coffee in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, across from the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and within walking distance from the Convention Center light rail station.

Big Week: I Need Your Support!!

WorkLifeAngelovic_FinalIllustration_HI My head is spinning right now. I don't really even know where to start...

In what is unquestionably (and by complete coincidence) the biggest week of my artistic career to date, the following three events are all happening over the next several days:

1. Lilla Rogers' Global Talent Search.

Global Talent Search

Tomorrow (September 3) through September 9, the public website goes live with a gallery of artwork submitted by all 50 semi-finalists. An esteemed judging panel will select 5 finalists to move on.

AND... one lucky additional artist will be chosen by a public vote. I need your support and YOUR VOTE!!!! So stay tuned...I will send out the link as soon as I can.

2. The Work/Life 3 Directory of Illustration (compiled and produced by Uppercase).

Check out the cool cover artwork, done by the talented Jeff Rogers.

I was selected as one of 100 illustrators from around the world to be featured in this esteemed publication, which includes work from an incredible line-up including (but certainly not limited to) Dinara Mirtalipova, Helen Dardik, Susy Pilgrim Waters, and so many more.

The book is finished and shipping now!! For a sneak peak, check out the book trailer here.

The assignment was to illustrate the following (my response to an interview question about why I chose this particular career path),

“I get this buzz...an electric current of excitement that lights me up from head to toe. I am an illustrator because it makes my soul sparkle.”

You can see my soul sparkling at the top of the page. The book will be sent out to an impressive list of 1000 art directors and advertisers. You can purchase your copy here.

3. I'm having an art show! September 3-October 26, 2013

This afternoon, I'm doing the install for my first art show! Entitled Re-Imagine Nation, and featuring (from the press release) “… delightfully rendered illustrative artworks by Benjamin Wright Coleman, Kelly Angelovic, Mike Geiger and John D. Schultz, poetry recited by Hannah Haddadi and Haven Grey, and live music performed by Josh Meyers, Re-Imagine Nation melds the kindred spirits of visual art, music and the written word."

The Opening Reception is this Friday, September 6th from 7:30 - 11:00 pm in the Art Gallery at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Please come out to support me! I'd love to see you.

Re-Imagine Nation

Holy Moly!! I think that covers it for this week. I keep having to remind myself to stop and soak up this whirlwind of excitement because the truth is that it all feels incredibly surreal. Like I am on the sidelines watching someone else. Gratitude and awe don't even begin to cover how I'm feeling as I try to wrap my head around all of this.

Wishing all of my fellow semi-finalists (who are surely on pins and needles like me) the very best of luck. Here we go!

The Next Round

Image I am so grateful for this big, messy adventure that we all embark upon every day.

Last week, I got on a plane and flew to tropical paradise to spend the week with my  husband and a handful of my very favorite people. For eight days we played, leaving our two year old in the willing hands of generous family members back home in Colorado.

I still don't know how to adequately thank the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who showed my daughter such a good time while we were away.

It was a tremendous gift.

My husband and I are like passing ships these days--he works long hours and when he's not working, I am. We talk childcare and logistics, but have little time to connect like we did before kids.

Spending a whole week together? We barely knew what to do with ourselves!

Kauai

Kauai Leaves

Hawaii did not disappoint. It was a lovely (mostly) lazy week spent reconnecting with my husband, basking in the glow of some of our nearest and dearest, and soaking up the warm tropical lushness that is Kauai.

Don't be fooled though--it wasn't all play. I did spend a good chunk of time with my sketchpad and laptop working on my entry for Lilla Rogers' Global Talent Search--do I still call it 'work' if I can't sleep because I am so excited about what I am doing??

Deep breath...Submissions were due today!

The assignment was to design a tote bag with a naturalist Fall theme that might be sold at a farmer's market. It was also recommended that we include people and some hand drawn type.

After many, many, many hours, a couple of panicky breakdowns, several internal pep talks, and the excavation of my heart and soul, the image above is what I came up with.

I still can't believe that I am a semi-finalist in this competition.

Presented to a panel of esteemed judges (many of whom buy artwork for a living), the entries from all 50 semi-finalists will be showcased online from September 3-9. Five artists will move ahead into the final round.

And here is where I need all of you...a sixth 'public choice' artist will also move ahead. Dear readers, I would love your vote! Stay tuned for additional details..

No matter the outcome of this next round, I am over the moon that I made it this far. In so many ways, it has been an incredible experience. And I look forward to cheering on the talented six who make it through to the next round. Best of luck to all of my fellow semi-finalists!
